Black Hole Cube 3L - Black w/Black

This Patagonia men's size guide brings together the recommended measurements for tops, jackets, fleece, t-shirts, pants, shorts, and jeans. The page H1 should be outside this block in Shopify, so the content is structured with subtitles, tables, and FAQs to improve readability, enhance SEO, and help search engines and AI better understand the information.

Measurements are given in centimeters and refer to the body, not the garment. Patagonia designs each product according to its final use, so fit can vary between a technical t-shirt, a waterproof jacket, a fleece, a trekking pant, or a swim short.

How to choose your Patagonia men's size

To choose correctly, measure your body with a flexible tape measure and compare your measurements with the corresponding table. For tops, chest measurement is usually the most important. For bottoms, hip measurement is usually the main reference, although if your waist corresponds to a larger size, it's best to choose the size indicated for the waist.

• Chest: measure the circumference at the widest point of your chest with relaxed arms.
• Waist: measure the circumference of your natural waist, in the area where the body narrows.
• Hip: measure the circumference at the widest point of your hips with feet together.
• Sleeve length: measure from the center back of the neck, over the shoulder and slightly bent elbow, to the wrist.

Patagonia men's size guide: tops

Use this table for Patagonia men's t-shirts, shirts, sweatshirts, fleece, jackets, and vests. If your chest and hip measurements don't match the same size, Patagonia recommends taking chest as your primary reference, unless your hip measurement is larger and you need more room in the lower part of the garment.

Patagonia men's size guide: bottoms with letter sizes

This table works for Patagonia men's pants, shorts, swim shorts, and bottoms that use letter sizing. For this type of garment, hip measurement is usually the most reliable. If your waist falls in a size larger than your hip, choose the size that corresponds to the waist.

Patagonia men's size guide: numeric pants and jeans

Some Patagonia pants, jeans, and shorts use numeric sizing. This numbering primarily relates to waist measurement, but it's also good to check hip measurement to prevent the pants from being too tight at the top.

Patagonia fit types for men

Beyond size, Patagonia offers different fit types. Checking the fit of each product is important because two garments in the same size can fit differently depending on whether they're designed as a technical base layer, t-shirt, fleece, jacket, or pant.

Size advice by Patagonia garment type

• T-shirts and shirts: focus primarily on chest measurement and the fit type indicated in the product sheet.
• Fleece and sweatshirts: if you want to wear a t-shirt or thin layer underneath, regular fit usually offers more room than slim fit.
• Jackets and vests: consider layering use. If you'll wear fleece or a sweatshirt underneath, it may be best to size up if you're between sizes.
• Pants and shorts: check waist and hip. On garments with elastic waistbands or stretchy fabric, there can be more margin for adjustment.
• Swim shorts: check the waistband and closure type. Drawstring models allow better adjustment of the garment.

Which Patagonia size to choose if you're between two sizes

If you're between two sizes, choose the smaller size if you prefer a more defined fit or if the garment has a relaxed fit cut. Choose the larger size if you want more freedom of movement, if you'll wear layers underneath, or if the garment is slim fit and you don't want a tight fit.

In technical garments, fit is part of the design. A base layer should sit closer to the body, while an outer jacket may need more room to accommodate mid layers.

Frequently asked questions about Patagonia men's sizes

How does Patagonia fit for men?

Patagonia uses a quite technical sizing system, designed according to the final use of each garment. The size can vary in feel depending on the fit: formfitting, slim fit, regular fit, or relaxed fit. That's why, in addition to the table, it's always best to check the fit indicated for each product.

What Patagonia size equals a men's M?

What measurement should I look at to choose a men's Patagonia jacket?

For men's Patagonia jackets, chest measurement is usually the main reference. If you'll wear layers underneath or are between sizes, it may be best to size up.

What measurement should I look at to choose men's Patagonia pants?

For men's Patagonia pants, hip measurement is usually the most important. If your waist corresponds to a larger size than your hip, choose the size indicated for the waist.

Are the measurements in this guide for the garment or the body?

The measurements in this guide are approximate body measurements. They don't correspond to the exact measurements of each garment, as the pattern changes depending on design, fabric, and fit type.

What does regular fit mean in Patagonia?

Regular fit means the garment fits neither too tight nor too loose. It's an intermediate fit, comfortable for daily use and compatible with light layers.

What's the difference between slim fit and relaxed fit?

Slim fit sits closer to the body and usually provides a more defined silhouette. Relaxed fit has more room and drapes more loosely, so it's less fitted.
