Nubuck leather has a smooth, grain-free polished surface. As with velvet, brushing the surface of nubuck leather displaces the fibers and leaves a visible mark. Nubuck leather is very sensitive to moisture and color, so it must be waterproofed.
Insole: Natural leather
Natural leather can be recognized by its untreated surface. BIRKENSTOCK deliberately leaves out surface grains and other features. BIRKENSTOCK uses strong leather with a thickness of 2.8 to 3.2 millimeters as the upper material.
Insole Material: Cork
Cork is a sustainable material extracted from the bark layer of the cork oak. This natural product is insulating and offers very good cushioning.
Sole: EVA
EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) is a high quality elastic material, very light and with excellent cushioning. As a result, it smooths out small irregularities in the floor and ensures that every step is gently cushioned.
