A sports magazine made by people who come from fashion.
Mental Athletic was founded by Gabriele Casaccia, who spent time in the Milan music and graffiti scenes before he took up running. The first issue came out at the end of 2023 with an interview with Kílian Jornet, and since then the magazine has published two large-format issues a year, with more photography and community than times and records.
In short
What is it? A biannual large-format magazine that tells the story of sport through photography, design and the communities that form around movement.
Which issues are at ECRU? Issue 3, issue 4, issue 5 and MAFC No. 1, the first issue of Mental Athletic Football Club.

01 · The magazine
From graffiti to trail
Gabriele Casaccia came from the Milan music and graffiti scenes and ended up running. With Mental Athletic he set out to make a sports magazine that felt more like a fashion or lifestyle title —he cites Slam Jam and Satisfy as references— focused on the joy of moving rather than extreme performance.
The issues we carry run from 300 to 432 pages, come out with several covers and bring together athletes, artists, brands and collectives from different places. The magazine also has a series devoted to football, Mental Athletic Football Club, whose first issue is also at ECRU.
