Why the Salomon XT-6 has become an icon
The Salomon XT-6 was born as a trail running shoe for long-distance runners, but in just a few years it has become one of the most recognizable models in the urban scene. Its combination of lightness, stability, and technical aesthetics has led to its appearance in mountain races as well as in streetwear and contemporary fashion looks.
Today we're not just talking about one XT-6, but a family of models that share DNA, but are designed for slightly different uses and contexts: the original XT-6, the XT-6 GORE-TEX and the XT-6 Expanse .
Original XT-6: The foundation of everything

The classic XT-6 is the starting point. It's the lightest of the three versions and best reflects Salomon's original focus: performance and protection on demanding terrain.
- Lightweight technical upper with synthetic reinforcements.
- ACS chassis that provides stability in the footing.
- Contagrip sole with very good traction.
- Quicklace system for adjusting the cord in one step.
It's the ideal choice if you want the purest XT-6 experience: a technical shoe, very lightweight and with a clearly performance aesthetic, even if you wear it daily in the city.
XT-6 GORE-TEX: When weather matters

The XT-6 GORE-TEX retains the same chassis and sole, but adds a waterproof and breathable membrane for more challenging climates.
- GORE-TEX membrane that protects from rain and moisture.
- Upper with a tighter fit and greater reinforcement.
- Slightly heavier than the original XT-6, but with more protection.
This is the version that makes the most sense if you want an XT-6 shoe that you can use with confidence on rainy days, on wet routes, or on terrain where water is a factor.
XT-6 Expanse: the most urban version

The XT-6 Expanse is the most urban interpretation of the family. It shares the same cushioning and stability base, but the upper changes its approach: softer materials, more structured panels, and a look closer to a classic sneaker.
- Panels in leather, nubuck or mesh depending on the color.
- More premium and casual look.
- It still maintains the trail DNA, but with a more lifestyle language.
If you're drawn to the XT-6 aesthetic but are looking for something that feels more like a fashion shoe and less like a racing shoe, the Expanse is probably the best fit.
XT-6, XT-6 GORE-TEX or XT-6 Expanse: which one to choose
Although they share a foundation, each model has its own ideal context:
- XT-6 : the lightest and most technical option. Perfect if you value performance and want the original silhouette.
- XT-6 GORE-TEX : the logical choice when weather or terrain are key. More protection, same essence.
- XT-6 Expanse : designed for those who prioritize urban use and style, without sacrificing comfort.
At ECRU, we developed the XT-6 family with both those looking for a functional shoe for moving around a lot during the day in mind, and those who focus on the aesthetic aspect and want to integrate the silhouette into a more carefully curated wardrobe.
