Carhartt WIP has a long list of trousers with their own names. Here we compare the ones we carry at ECRU by fit and fabric, using the details on each product page.
In short
The classic? The Single Knee: Dearborn canvas, relaxed straight fit, tool pockets and a hammer loop.
The roomiest? The Brandon (loose straight, low crotch) and the Payson (wide straight), both in denim. With stretch? The Floyde, in Greentree twill with Lycra.

Single Knee and Simple Pant

Single Knee
Organic cotton Dearborn canvas, relaxed straight fit, regular waist. Hammer loop, tool pockets and bartacks at stress points.

OG Single Knee
12 oz Camano denim with a wide silhouette and original loose fit. It keeps the hammer loop and utility pockets; the Blue Marble wash leaves wear marks.

Simple Pant Black
Mid-weight poly-cotton twill (65/35) in a relaxed straight fit, with triple stitching and bartack reinforcements.

Simple Pant Hamilton Brown
The same model in 8-wale Coventry corduroy, 9.7 oz 100% cotton, with a rinsed finish.

The jeans and the stretch pair
The Brandon is made from heavyweight cotton Smith denim, with a loose straight fit and a low crotch: the leg falls wide and straight from the hip. The Payson is roomy too, wide straight with a regular waist, in cotton denim with recycled cotton: 80% and 20% on the Blue Rigid; the Marble Used Wash is 15.75 oz Boston denim with a worn-looking marbled wash.
The Floyde takes another route: 9.7 oz Greentree twill in cotton and Lycra, stretchy and garment dyed, with a nuanced colour surface.

06 · Sizing
Inches or letters
Depending on the model, sizing is by waist in inches (Single Knee, Simple Pant and Payson) or by letters (Brandon, OG Single Knee and Floyde). Check the scale on each product page.
For reference from the product pages: in the Single Knee Tobacco the model is 186 cm and wears 32/32; in the Brandon he is 186 cm and wears an M. According to its product page, Dearborn canvas softens gradually with wear.

Frequently asked questions
About the trousers
What is the difference between Single Knee and Double Knee?
The Double Knee has a double layer of fabric at the knees for reinforcement. The Single Knee has a single layer.
How should I wash them?
It depends on the model: always follow the label. The Single Knee Tobacco and Brandon product pages specify machine washing at 40 °C max., tumble drying up to 60 °C, line drying and ironing up to 200 °C.
Which trousers have stretch?
The Floyde, in cotton and Lycra Greentree twill. The rest of this selection has no elastic fibre in its composition.
