Getaway takes place in a parallel universe a little closer to the sun; The Canary Islands, a holiday destination almost exclusively for more than three million western tourists a year. Five Danish photographers have been on an expedition to this bright new world to obtain evidence of its well-being. Here we see bodies of all shapes and sizes, deep canyons, wilderness, sandy beaches, sunburn, nudism, and alcohol. A playful mix where you come to enjoy, dream, escape, recover and face the absence of everyday life. That temporary reality we call vacations.
Ulrik Jantzen, Kasper Witte Larsen, Emil Jakobsen, Simon Caspersen and Kasper Kristoffersen work together in the photographic collective Büro Jantzen founded by photojournalist Ulrik Jantzen. Over the past 15 years, Jantzen has made his mark on the Danish photography scene, where he has exhibited in galleries and museums in Denmark and abroad, published several photobooks, and won several photography awards.
